Random.. but why the heck am I sitting here eating a mini Snickers after not even a week ago I was posting on Facebook about being fat? You do it to yourself, Tamara..
Anyways, a couple weeks ago Seth and I went to Home Depot and picked up our plants and we finally had time to plant them this past weekend. Well, Seth planted them. I just went outside a few times to check on him and stare at him because he looked cute playing in the dirt in his camo print pants and hat.
So here is our little starter veggie and herb garden. I love the half barrels we picked up!
This is probably laughable to some of you big time gardeners, but I am overly proud of this little setup that I had absolutely no part in other than saying, "Sure, let's get that.. and that.."
Seth would ask me with a look of worry, "You will water them... right?"
...."Sure babe.. like once or twice a month, right?"
*gives me a weird look*
...."Oh.. juuuuust kidding!"
*I walk away as fast as my short legs can before he realizes I am about to kill.all.the.plants*
We are mainly growing things for homemade salsa. Good salsa is important in the summer, ya know?
Now I need some cute garden markers, which I will of course DIY for quadruple the price than it would cost me to buy them pre-made. But, what fun is that?
After seeing how much life just two barrels of plants brought to the deck, I decided I needed to go get flowers... Like... I HAD to go get them AND plant them just four hours before having to leave to the airport to pick up my daughter Autumn. I was not going to that airport without some dang flowers on the deck first. So after some 'looks' from Seth I was on my way back to home Depot!
Why the 'looks'?
Oh, just because he TRIED to get me to go THE DAY BEFORE when he was headed out for soil. The day befoooore. Yep. He even offered to pick up flowers for me, but as a typical woman low on caffeine and sanity and high on hormones, I was in a 'mood' and told him I didn't want any stupid flowers.
It's annoying being me sometimes. Bless that man and his patience. I wanted ALL the flowers not even 24 hours later.
I came back home with my buckets and flowers and wanted more before I even planted the ones I just purchased, I was so excited! I dug in to the soil and got my flowers planted. You simply remove them from the bucket they are in when purchased and place it into a hole in the soil in the planter barrel and pack the soil around the plant roots.. I am ONLY telling you these very basic instructions because I actually had to 'double check' with Seth that that was how you do it and there has got to be someone out there as slow as I am with these things.
You're welcome.
Signed, your friendly neighborhood professional gardener.
And I did it! Somebody.. please cheer for me! Then place your bets on how long before they wilt and die!
See that little dead one?.. Oh, STOP.. I didn't already kill one, it came like that. Should I clip it off? Is that what you're suppose to do? I can probably google these things. I am sure I messed up something though. When planting I didn't realize some of them need 'space'? The plants are more high maintinance than I am. I need space sometimes, too.. do I get space? No. I deal with it. I go on with my life. Plants don't get the space they need and they just give up and die on you!?
Princess plants. *eye roll*
Anyhow, they've been planted a whopping 48 hours and so far, so good. I even remembered to water them this morning. I'm sure you're impressed.
Any tips from any of my readers, I welcome them! I would love to get more and maybe plant a few things beyond the planter barrels eventually.
