We decided we wanted to have a small wedding early on after he proposed. It didn't take too long after trying to find a venue and looking through 1,013 shades of pink table linens before I said to him in frustration, "I rather go to the court house and use our money to take off to Bora Bora instead of stressing about a wedding!" To my surprise, he said, "I'd be down for that!".
Wait.. did he just nonchalantly tell me we could go to Bora Bora?
Goooodbye, wedding plans.. Helloooo, Bora Bora!
....... And helloooo sticker shock!
When Seth and I first started dating, one day, most likely after one too many margaritas, I started rambling on about my bucket list and going to Bora Bora and staying in one of those overwater bungalows was right at the tippy-top of that list. I told him I would go there someday. Yeah.. I also never bothered to actually price it all out. I mean, it's Bora Bora, I knew it would be expensive, but not exactly how expensive! Seth set a rather generous budget for us to start with and we still went over it by 3k. We decided to reach out to a few travel agents to see what kind of deal they could work for us and went with Alison from Tahiti Travel Mate. She has been a DREAM to work with. Seth doesn't usually like to use a travel agent, but with a trip like this, the expert help was a no-brainer. I really like that our travel agent has been to the French Polynesia multiple times and could give us recommendations.
Within a couple weeks of agreeing to go to the French Polynesia, we were signing our contract and paying our deposit! I have been obsessing ever since! As someone who hasn't traveled much or left the United states, this is HUGE to me. Even Seth, who has been all over the world is excited! I have been lurking around the Trip Advisor forums for weeks now and even the most experienced travels agree; there is no place in the world like Bora Bora and the cost is WELL worth it with no regrets.
We are incredibly excited! It's truly a dream come true and I can't wait to experience heaven on earth with the most amazing man! We're going to make some incredible memories and what better place to kick off being a married couple than paradise? The photo above might be one of the resorts we will be staying at.
I will be sharing more of our travel plans through the months leading up to our honeymoon. That's right.. months! We're leaving September 14th!
